The Village RI was our first grantee and still one of our favorites. This group is commited to creating community for kids in RI foster care. They also provide support for Foster families. Foster kids have a community of peers becuase of the Village.
Dr. Omar Bah and his team have committed to advocacy for African refugees settling right here in Providence. Serving hundreds of refugees each and every day, the Refugee Dream Center advocates for safe housing, citizenship, workforce training, education, and so much more. We are inspired by their efforts.
The Steel yard not only makes machines, it also runs like one. This highly efficient organization is a hub of culture, creativity, and equity for the city of Providence. Along with a myriad of classes, the Steel yard also provides work force training for underserved members of the community.
Many local Rhode Island residents only know Farm Fresh RI for the indoor markets. What they don't know is that FFRI acts as a delivery hub for 100's of local farmers, providing them with infrastructure to sell their locally grown crops. Amongst other ingenuitive activities, they also provide subsidies for residents with vouchers. This creates an opportunity for marginalized communities to eat healthy without the high prices. Rhode Island is a better place because of Farm Fresh RI.
Housing and full time work for the recently incarcerated, expanding facilities for the homeless, entrpreneurial businesses employing the recently encarcerated. These are only some of the services Open Doors RI is doing very well. We got to spend the afternoon with Nick Horton, the co-executive director of Open Doors and very quickly realized this organization is supporting human flourishing in the state of Rhode Island. We are inspired by their good work and efficiently run organization.
